Regular Leather Birkins and Kellys have averaged nearly $17,800, 6% above 2021
While the market for Hermes Birkins and Kellys at auction has increased so far in 2022 compared to 2021, overall leather bags have increased only 6% on average, which is much less than 2021’s 20% increase over 2020’s auction averages. Regular leather Birkins and Kellys, for the purposes of these calculations, exclude any limited edition, HSS or exotic examples. These bags represent the core of the handbag market. While 35cm Birkins have remained unchanged averaging around $12,500, 30cm Birkin have increased 10% from $17,300 to over $19,000, and 25cm Birkins have increased 7% from over $22,250 to over $23,750. These results exclude Sellier Birkins which continue to command a premium at auction. Auction prices for the mini Kelly 20 II have remained stable around $28,500, which 25cm Kellys have increased 10% to nearly $25,000 and 28cm Kellys have risen 12% to nearly $21,000. Larger 32cm Kellys have also increased 10% to over $13,500. The last time one of these categories dipped in value was in 2019 when 28cm Kellys dropped 3% from $13,750 to $13,350.
So far in 2022 Regular Leather Birkins and Kellys have averaged nearly $17,800, a number that has increased an average of 9.6% annually since 2016.
